Western Union and Mastercard extend their global partnership

US based money transfer giant Western Union has announced that it has extended its partnership with Mastercard.

As noted in a recent announcement, this deepening partnership would expand Mastercard Send integration into Western Union’s global money movement network and also Mastercard’s Cross-Border Services delivery via Western Union Business Solutions.

Under this extension of the new partnership would focus on two main aspects as highlighted in the press note. Firstly, the Mastercard Send and Western Union would be broadening the payout possibilities for its US domestic money transfer receivers.
This year, Western Union teamed with a number of other payment companies separately to expand its operations globally such as partnering with Kyodai, Advapay and Triterras.

Secondly, clients of Western Unions in 16 European markets would have an option to leverage Mastercard Send to send money transfers. In addition to this, Mastercard would integrate into Western Union Business Solutions’ global network which would be used to pay out funds for Mastercard’s Cross-Border Services.

“Western Union is a critical partner for Mastercard as together we focus on digitizing and modernizing the movement of money — for consumers and businesses,” added Leigh Amaro, Senior Vice President, Enterprise Partnerships at Mastercard. “Combined, our networks offer unique global reach, for efficient and secure transactions.”
