T&E Recovery: the rise and resurgence of travel

Travel is beginning to open up after the pandemic shutdown, with domestic business travel now picking up, and the anticipation that international travel business will grow at a slower pace due to covid restrictions, to reach pre-pandemic levels by the end of 2024. In a trillion-dollar market that is at the core of commercial card spend, the recovery of the T&E sector is critical to the growth and success of card issuers. Although this topic is ever-evolving, corporate end-users will offer their “in the trenches” perspective on recovery scenarios and verticals that have risen up whilst T&E has been in recovery. Insights include:

  • • the cascading effect the return to travel has on corporations and the travel industry at large.
  • • the complexities organizations and travellers are facing as the return to travel rises.
  • • the evolution of card program structure: evaluating current processes and adapting for the future.

Digitisation: Reducing checks in the payments ecosystem

Sixty-five percent of small- and mid-size businesses in the U.S. still use paper checks to manage their day-to-day payments. In a world where real-time payments are becoming the gold standard, many business owners stand to benefit from a more efficient way to manage their accounts. Check digitization, which enables business owners to make payments faster, more efficiently and more securely than ever before, is one such method. In this session we look at the development of a holistic digitisation approach, which starts with checks, and ends with a seamless integrated electronification process that reduces cost and labour for corporate end users. Beyond the mechanics, we examine the challenges businesses face as they transition from paper checks and what is required to enable the digitisation journey.

The soft underbelly of card program growth

Most commercial card-using organizations project expected increases in future card spending. However, RPMG Research analysis of recent benchmark survey and Federal Government data shows that about 31% -37% of card programs (both of plastic cards and virtual cards when new programs are removed) are actually growing after inflation is considered, and most of the significant spending growth is from a subset within this group. The purpose of this presentation is to identify challenges (and opportunities) within customer growth data, discuss issuer and end-user factors influencing card spending growth patterns, and articulate solution options to support a more broad-based portfolio growth.

From booking to expensing: reviewing the integration puzzle in business travel payments

Integrating booking, payment, and expensing platforms in business travel remains a significant challenge. Suppliers often start by focusing on one area—booking, paying, or expensing—before expanding into others. However, fully integrating the payment component while managing different payment methods (lodge cards, plastic, virtual cards, etc.) remains complex. In this session, two corporate industry experts will share what they’ve observed in both successful and flawed integrated offerings from platform providers and how end-to-end solutions are taking shape. They’ll also discuss best practices, emerging trends, and opportunities for financial service providers to contribute to a more streamlined, holistic travel management experience.

Stop selling products - start owning the client’s cash flow problem

Let’s be honest, mid-market clients don’t wake up thinking about your treasury products. They wake up worrying about making payroll, paying suppliers, and having enough cash on hand to move fast when opportunity knocks. The best bankers already recognize this and have stopped leading with product pitches and started acting like cash flow strategists. In this session, we’ll dismantle the “sell what’s on the shelf” mindset and replace it with a relationship model built on orchestrating payment timing, methods, and supplier terms. Master this, and you’re not just another bank in their stack, you’re the financial partner they build their business around.
